Go Cubs!

Yesterday was Elayna’s first baseball game! She actually earned the tickets to the game by reading 28 books for our local library. We are so proud of her.
It was a super hot day (97 degrees), but we headed down to Principal Park anyway. Thank goodness our seats were good, and were totally shaded! Score!
Elayna was pretty excited to get a baseball hat and a baseball, and to find our seats and look around. Once the game got started she got distracted pretty easily, but still seemed to enjoy herself. We got her some ice cream (Dippin Dots- which are bizarre little teensy tiny ice cream dots), but eventually she needed to go exploring. That’s when an unlikely group of “guys” entered the picture.
A big cup, hot dog, and bag of chips chased each other all over the baseball field, and if that isn’t weird enough, they then came into the stands to interact with some people. They walked right up to us and gave Elayna high-fives. She was mesmerized and totally excited about the whole thing. When she saw them coming our way she said “OH!!! Look!! They are coming to us!!” It was rather hilarious how thrilling her encounter with the cup, hot dog, and chips was. 😉
And that wasn’t even the highlight of her night… if you can imagine that. Next she saw Cubbie the Bear! She immediately ran over to him. As she kept talking to him he snuggled her, then he picked her up and held her up for a minute for me to take a picture. She was laughing like crazy about it. So, so cute.
I’m so glad she had a good first baseball game. It’s such a blessing every time I get to experience a first with her, and I know that Jake was especially excited about this one. We were very glad he got to take a half day to experience it with her. I’m sure they have many baseball games together in their future. 🙂
